Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials aims to increase European competitiveness, raw materials security and improve wellbeing while assuring environmental integrity, resilience and sustainability. Its aim is to keep average global warming below 2° C and enable ecosystems and society to adapt to climate change and other environmental changes.

The chemical and process industries play a key role in addressing issues around the circular economy including embracing Industrial Symbiosis in its broadest sense, raw materials and feedstock including use of renewable resources such as biomass and CO2, water and wastewater management, resource and energy efficiency, and process intensification technologies for future chemical plants.

These activities will contribute to the achievement of a resource – and water - efficient and climate change resilient economy and society, protect and sustain natural resources and ecosystems, and enable the sustainable supply and use of raw materials that can meet the needs of a growing global population within the sustainable limits of the planet's natural resources and eco-systems.
