Public Consultation on the Future EU Budget for Research and Innovation

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the EU budget for funding research and innovation after 2020. The consultation asks for feedback on investments in the successor to the Horizon 2020 programme, the funds for investment, single market, small- and medium-sized businesses and other financial assistance programmes.

This is part of a wider public consultation on the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework, which is the EU’s long-term budget. It is based on the Commission Reflection paper on the future of EU finances and the Commission White Paper on the future of Europe published in 2017.

The aim of the consultation is to gather the views of as many people as possible and get a solid basis for preparing the next generation of EU programmes and to make the most of every Euro of the EU budget.

Europe must step up its investment in research and innovation in order to maximise impact, while also further refining the success of Horizon 2020, is one of the key messages from the European Commission interim evaluation of the Programme, published by the European Commission on 11 January 2018.

The public consultation on research and innovation is open until 8 March. You can give your input here.
