Stay tuned: SusChem updates

We have all been affected by the COVID-19 crisis, which has had a dramatic impact on people, societies and businesses around the world. The chemical sector has remained solutions-oriented, standing in solidarity with governments, communities and partners across Europe.

Sustainable Chemistry has an important role to play in the recovery of Europe and to help deliver the Green Deal objectives. Sustainable Chemistry accelerates innovation and competitiveness across all sectors, while protecting and enhancing human well-being and the environment. A few months ago, we launched the new SusChem Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda (SIRA), with a horizon towards 2030. Its innovation priorities have now become even more relevant. The digital transformation of the industrial sectors, circular economy and the energy transition are even more relevant for Europe’s recovery while innovation remains a strong contributing parameter towards solving EU challenges.
SusChem had internal discussions, within its governance structures, accounting for current circumstances and future goals. Several decisions have been made and some relevant key points are included below:

* SusChem Stakeholders: the event is postponed for 2021. The value of a usual F2F meeting is not possible. We look forward to meeting you all safe and sound at our next event.

* SusChem Brokerage: We will have our next Brokerage event together with the launch of Horizon Europe in 2021. Following the current HEU timeline, consider > Q2 2021. More news to follow in due time.

Keep an eye on the activities organised at national level by our SusChem National technology platforms (NTPs). For example, SusChem UK promotes a series of info webinars on the Green Deal calls and a relevant Brokerage event in autumn 2020. The online events, organised by KTN UK, will be open to the SusChem community.

* Stay tuned for the European Research and Innovation Days 2020. The European Commission’s annual flagship event will take place on 22-24 September, in an online format. We will then highlight specific sections of interest for our stakeholders, linked to the Green Deal calls and share them in our newsroom.

Other news:

Starting in 2020, SusChem will also study further the impact of digital technologies within the chemical sector and investigate case studies, in line with the EU priorities.

* The European Federation of Biotechnology Section on Applied Biocatalysis (ESAB) joins the SusChem Board, reinstating synergies to deliver on priorities under Horizon Europe and the Green Deal.

A SusChem LinkedIn discussion group will be launched later this year for our members to connect and find partners for future projects on a more consistent basis. Are you following SusChem or LinkedIn? If not yet, join us here!

We wish you and your families a healthy and safe summer period.

The SusChem team.
